ABOUT US
Our Story
Soli believes that every young person should be able to access the support they need, when they need it. We were founded in 2021 by Patrick Mather, with the aim of improving accessibility and developing partnerships in the community.
After years working as a private tutor, Patrick was frustrated by how difficult parents found it to access high-quality support in a timely fashion. He realised that focusing on person-centred support and having multiple specialists in one place would be transformative.
Our Reason
Patrick had to come to terms with the sad death of Oli, one of his students, and then wanted to make a change. Soli was his response. No young person should have to feel like they are on their own. Students and young people are particularly vulnerable to feelings of isolation: 33% often feel lonely
Suicide rates reached an all-time high in the student population in 2018 and many of those cases involved individuals who were fearful of opening up about their struggles with more than three-quarters of students having concealed their symptoms due to fear of being stigmatised.
Our Objective
Our objective is to remove the obstacles that stand in the way of many young people, particularly the stigma around mental health. Rather than being blocked and frustrated at every turn, they should be able to thrive and flourish.
Young people are pressurised more than any previous generation. They have to deal with the perils of social media, the stress of exams, and the fight to progress at every rung of the educational ladder. Soli believes the solution is simple: it’s time to talk.
Our Team
Patrick worked as a private tutor for seven years, working with hundreds of students. After seeing so many individuals struggle with their emotional health, he set up Soli.
Paul has managed people and operations from the frontline, as a British Army officer, to the boardroom, as a key cog in the growth of tech startup Deliveroo.
